Yankees Ready to Fight it Out?

When the Yankees were 10 1/2 games ahead of the Red Sox on Aug. 15, the only task seemingly facing them was polishing up their October rotation. Who would have thought they would have anything to prove just 16 days later?

But the Red Sox are within 4 1/2 games of the AL East lead now, the closest they've been in more than two months, and they are apparently no longer willing to settle for a wild-card berth. The Yankees are now in a critical stretch of the season and have to fend off the hottest team in baseball.
