THE OLD GOAT CAN STILL MILK IT
After allowing more hits than Michael Jackson in his last outing Pedro went Milly Vanilly on the Padres Ass Tuesday night. Allowing just 2 hits over 8 shut out innings, the Pedro of old rings true for the time being.
In his finest performance of 2004, Martinez looked young again, downing the Padres in a 1-0 thriller. Backed by a 94 mph fastball and the rediscovery of the curve which abandoned him in his last start, the three-time Cy Young Award winner surrendered just two hits over eight shutout innings while striking out eight and walking one.
"He was fabulous," said Red Sox manager Terry Francona.

"David Wells was pretty good for a guy just coming off the DL," said Martinez. "He always battles hard. But it was fun to give the fans what they expect.
The way the weather is going right now and the way I'm feeling the last three outings, I don't see why not," he said. "I can learn from this one. I'm not going to sit back and relax and expect my next outing to be just like this one. I'm going to go to work even harder to try and improve and get even better."
