Short Term Memory Loss

Just when it was time to start thinking that the Mirabelli trade for Mark Loretta and the Arroyo trade for Willy Mo Pena were critical mistakes; Mark Loretta steps up and injects a quick fix of short term memory loss into Red Sox Nation. A strong case could be made that Saturday's loss to Seattle would have never happened if the Red Sox didn't trade Wakefield's personal catcher Dough Mirabelli to the Padres for Loretta. It is no secret that Josh Bard, Jason Varitek and seemingly anyone other than Doug Mirabelli can not catch Wakefield's knuckler effectively. Bard's catching follies on Saturday lead directly to Seattle scoring and the Red Sox losing that game. It is also quite obvious that Bronson Arroyo would have started the Patriot's Day game if he wasn't traded for Wily Mo Pena. Instead Lenny DiNardo got the ball on Monday even though he has only had one start in the two previous years. The Red Sox should have known that David Wells is a worthless sack of crap, Foulke can't close, and Papelbon would not be in the starting rotation prior to getting rid of Arroyo. It should go without mentioning that Wily Mo Pena has not contributed one iota to the 2006 Red Sox, and may never if he doesn't learn how to have a good at bat. Alas all of this is forgotten for one day thanks to Loretta's walkoff homerun. Amen.

The PawSox were beaten on Friday night at McCoy Stadium, 9-1. Veteran lefty David Wells didn't fare well, giving up 7 runs in 5 innings. Wells was in Pawtucket on a Major League rehab assignment as he continues to recover from offseason knee surgery. Things got off to a rough start for Wells as Indy scored 3 runs in the first and 4 more in the next four frames.
